
Duane Perdue was born and raised in Salem, Virginia. He attended Salem City Schools while growing up and graduated from Salem High School in 1999. Duane went on to Virginia Tech and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. He was also a devoted brother in his fraternity, Sigma Chi. After graduation he took an active role in his family’s business, Security Lock & Key.
On March 10, 2008, Duane was diagnosed with Acute Leukemia. Duane underwent months of treatment, along with a stem cell transplant at Duke Medical Center. After a long and difficult journey, Duane lost the battle to leukemia. Duane went to be with the Lord on December 6, 2008.
A scholarship has been set up through the Salem School Endowment in memory of Duane. This tournament and the sponsorships from it will go towards the funding of this scholarship.
The National Marrow Donor Program will also have a marrow donor drive at the golf course during the tournament. This drive will go towards building the donor database for people requiring stem cell transplants. For everyone willing to participate in the donor drive, please click here.
